Hemsedal Village Norway
A new base village that adds several thousand slopeside beds
Hemsedal Village is the primary portal base of Hemsedal Mountain Resort, the second largest ski area in Norway. The original ski resort base was located too high on the mountain, and suffered from insufficient space for skier staging, beginner ski training, commercial services and beds for overnight guests. It was clear there was a need for slopeside, warm beds as the resort was rapidly growing transition from day skier area to destination resort.
Mountainworks was asked to redesign previous firms plans for the mountain and village area that weren’t meeting expectations of the resort ownership Skistar. Since this planning effort began 2004, Mountainworks has overseen the design and implementation of 3 new apartment lodges in the village with 1,000 new beds, that include ground floor skier services, restaurants, and retail shops. Additionally, plans for ski facilities in the village have been realized for a new beginner training area that includes 6 platter lifts, 4 magic carpets and two detachable 6 person chairlifts, the most recent installed in 2023.
